I can't think of a good title for today - I'm resting!

I now have a better appreciation for the day of rest sanctioned by God.

You've probably noticed (if you follow me on Twitter, that is!) I've been whining sharing how sick I've been the past week. I actually thought I was better, and then wham! Tuesday I got hit with it again like a brick to my head.

(If I make no sense, I blame the medicine!)

The thing is, when you have to look after your own people, keep the house from falling apart, and care for someone else's little ones, it makes getting better that much harder. I confess to being a bit of a martyr at times, and give hubs a hard time when he is sick because he completely shuts down.

Well, it is definitely time for me to shut down!

Yesterday I realized I wasn't helping anyone, including myself, by being so driven. And so I managed to get the day off from babysitting, made hubby go to Parent-Teacher interviews alone, made a cup of tea and curled up under my blankets to get some well needed rest.

Today I am taking it easy. As much as I really need to wash the floors, fold laundry, and do SOMETHING with the pile of tomatoes and cucumbers on my counter, I need rest. That other stuff can wait.

I believe that when God rested on the seventh day after working so hard to create the world, He was setting an example for us to follow. Of course, some do go a bit too far with the legalism by making up rules about what you can and cannot do on Sundays. But I don't believe that was the heart of what God was doing. I believe God was showing us that there is a time to work, and a time to rest. We can go and go and go, but if we never take a break, never give ourselves and our bodies a time to refresh and rejuvenate, eventually we lose our effectiveness, our energy, and even our passion for what we are doing.

I think it is so important for all of us to remember to take a break, even it means inconveniencing others (like I did today to the mom I babysit for!). While we are not called to be selfish creatures, caring for only ourselves, we aren't expected to be foolish either.

So today, I rest. And hopefully recover from this annoying sinus cold. I will drink copious amounts of tea, let my husband and kids spoil me as they wish, finish the book I am reading, and watch Martha and Rachael Ray to my heart's content.

(And pray the laundry will fold itself!)

Aww, hope you get feeling better soon!

I do the same thing to my hubby! I wonder how it's possible for someone who is so strong to be such a baby when he's sick. :) I guess this is why men don't go through childbirth.

And I totally agree, we need those days of rest to take care of yourselves. And while you may feel like you are inconveniencing your friend today, if you continued to plow on and got even sicker, you might miss more days in the future which would be an even greater inconvenience. Best to take care of yourself and get well, then hit the grindstone again!

I could not agree more with your thoughts on rest. I'm learning this myself a lot lately - He did set that example for (what I believe) all the reasons you just shared.

Enjoy your tea, your warm blanket and a cozy curl up spot!

Hope you feel better soon.
