Since this week was the kick off to the Fall Into Reading Challenge, I thought I'd share my most awesome book tips with you. That and I couldn't think of anything else to post, considering the state of my house this week. Not exactly a picture of cleanliness. (Good thing this isn't a Proverbs 31 themed blog! Although then I'd have servants....)
Anyhoo, one of the things I find in my deep and abiding love of reading is it can be hard to keep track of all of the books I want to read. That's why I absolutely love the Visual Bookshelf on Facebook. This is a nifty application that actually lets you organize your books into Already Read, Reading Now, and Want To Read. Based on your personal collection, the Bookshelf will actually make recommendations for you. You can even rate and review the books you have already read so others can determine if that particular book is of interest to them.
Once I've figured out all the books I want to read, I head over to my library's website. One of my favourite things about requesting books at the library, is that if they don't have a new release in their collection yet, you can recommend it for purchase and will be the very first person allowed to borrow it! It's so much more fun to read a brand new book than a beat up one that you have no idea who's been sneezing on.
(Sorry, still a little germ sensitive over here!)
Of course, there are just some books I HAVE to have, so if there's money in the budget leftover for me to spend, I head on over to Amazon. I love going to book stores, but when you can save 15% or more off the cover price, I have a hard time buying books elsewhere. AND, if you didn't already know, you can get free shipping if you spend $39 or more. (My husband hates that, because he totally knows I'm going to spend the money to save the shipping. I'm frugal like that.)
You can also pre-order soon-to-be-released books. And sometimes they even come BEFORE the actual release date. Yeah, I feel pretty special when that happens. Like I'm in some sort of secret elite club.
Ahem.
Of course, the only downside to requesting books at the library or ordering online, is that they all tend to show up at the same time. And then I have no choice but to spend all day reading them.
Wait. That's not really a downside!

OK I've got to get on this facebook deal. Everyone is raving about it!
That is pretty cool about your library buying the book. I wonder if our library does that.
Darn! I don't have facebook. I usually just keep a running "to be read" list in my journal of books I've read.
I didn't realize facebook had that option, I use one that is similar sounding on www.goodreads.com and when one of my friends updates her list it emails me.
Off to check out the one on facebook, thanks!
I use paperbackswap. I'm rdrkm there. you can post your bookshelf and a wishlist and swap books with others for free.
I hate to break this to you but on the Proverbs 31 issue, we do have servants. Their names are Maytag, KitchenAid and Hoover.
Good news, I think that list is a life time kinda list not a each day kinda list. At least, that's what I keep telling myself...
