Fall Into Reading ~ Sunset & The Longing
After my last Fall Into Reading selection, these both were a welcome change of pace. I'm still having nightmares!!
I don't have a lot to say about Sunset, the finally(!) final book in the Sunset series of The Baxter Family Drama series. Sunset reads as you would expect from Karen Kingsbury, light on story, heavy on sentiment. In fact, she spends the majority of the book reminiscing about the previous thirteen!
But what I found most frustrating was the loose ends still not tied up. And the ominous hint in the acknowledgments of more to come, in the form of not only a "blog" by Ashley Baxter, but also as background characters in an upcoming series. Seriously? I thought that's what was supposed to happen in the Sunrise series.
It's not that I don't like the Baxter's, but come on. Leave them alone already. I feel sorry for them, even if they are fictitious!
'Nuff said.
The Longing, by Beverly Lewis, was a great wrap up to The Courtship of Nellie Fisher series. Unlike the Kingsbury one that went on and on (and on!), this one knows when to end. And while the usual story line of romance between non-Amish and Amish persists, I found the premise of the split between the Old Order and New Order churches fascinating.
And the loose ends from the first two books? All nicely tied up, thank you very much.
I'm not sure what I'm going to read next. I'm still waiting for my other books to come in at the Library, although I did just discover that Sinner (another Ted Dekker book) is actually the third book in a series. Which means I went and requested the first two to read so I'd know what was happening. Except now, I'm totally scared to read them!
While I'm off deciding what book to escape into, why don't you check out some more book reviews at Callapidder Days?

I love your book reviews!! Thanks!
I've been reading about the Baxter Family for quite awhile now. I think this is the next book on my list... Thanks for the preview.
Well, you've convinced me not to read the Baxter series. I never finished Left Behind for the same reason - I just felt like they were dragging it out too long.
