I'll probably be called a few names after this post
On the weekend my oldest daughter, Emma, just "happened" to be in my closet where I just "happen" to hide the odd present and "accidentally" saw a Wii Play game box.
Apparently Emma saw something moving in my closet (through a closed door, mind you!) and just had to investigate. It somehow slipped her mind that Christmas was even approaching (this from the child who practically invented Christmas countdowns. In July!) and that Mommy always hides a present or two in her closet and that it is completely off limits after during the period of Oct 31st to Dec 24th. She just "forgot".
Yeah. Whatever.
Em then cleverly deduced the kids must be getting a Wii, since why would we buy a game when we don't even own the console?
I was pretty upset when I discovered that our surprise had been ruined. Mainly because my favourite part of Christmas is the joy I get to see on my childrens' faces as they open their gifts and have their little present-y dreams realized. So I felt like someone had just taken away my gift and told me there'd be no Christmas this year.
In order to save the day, my fabulously creative husband made up a story about how now that the surprise had been spoiled (because, of course, Emma had to tell her sister!) we had to take the Wii back and get them something else.
She was devastated.
And I felt mean. Momentarily.
But I can't wait to see her face on Christmas morning!!

Speaking of Christmas, I'll be moving Under Grace & Over Coffee over to TypePad on Monday, December 1st. To celebrate the Christmas season, Kristen has created a festive new banner for me, which you can only see if you visit me at my new site. I hope you'll come join me! I'll be posting links at the end of the week. You'll be able to access the Blogger site for a bit, but I am transferring all my archives over to my new digs for your convenience!

Well, I won't call you any names except "clever." I fully support the use of some minor trickery in order to ensure maximum Christmas surprise and happiness. In fact, as I was reading your post, I was thinking, "I'd probably tell my kid that the game is for _____ (a cousin, neighbor, or someone else who has a Wii)."
Can't wait to see your new digs!
Hee hee. I think it's great! :)
Okay, I just had to do this exact thing to my MOM! My sister, big mouth that she is, told my Mom what I got her! And since my Mom loves surprises I felt like Christmas was ruined...so I did what any noble daughter would do: I lied. lol. I could tell she believed me so now she will be surprised and tricked all in one on Christmas morning. lol. ; )
My son found one of his Christmas presents--in the back seat of the truck, of all places--cause Mommy forgot it was there. So, yup, I lied, and told him it was for his cousin.
You just do what you have to do! ;)
Haha! I gotta say, I'd probably do the same!
