MM&M: The Story of Us, Part 3

On love,
On marriage
This is the third in a series of posts about how I met my man. You can read the first two parts here and here.
The day after Valentine's Day, the phone rang.
To my surprise, my call display showed the local newspaper across the street. Assuming it was another telemarketing call, I didn't exactly use my nicest voice to answer.
To my absolute shock and joy, it turned out to be the new guy. Kevin.
He had never called me before, so after some small talk I literally held my breath as he told me his reason for calling.
"Are you free Wednesday night?"
I grimaced. I actually wasn't. I was hosting my junior high girls' small group at my house that evening. Would I blow my only chance at a night out with Heavenly Blue Eyes?
I sighed and told him that no, in fact I wasn't free. But I also very quickly filled him in when I sensed the disappointment in his voice. I held my breath again.
"What about Thursday," he asked.
Yes!!
"Yeah, I think that might work, " I very coolly and calmly replied, all the while jumping up and down in my living room! I'm pretty cool like that.
I spent the next two days in agony over the butterflies in my stomach. I was so excited and so nervous. Even my roommate commented that she had never seen me this worked up over a boy.
That Thursday, Kevin came to my door wearing I think 12 layers of clothing under his two layers of jackets (okay, one was a fleece). Keep in mind, it was February. In Saskatchewan. He escorted me to his little gray car that was so covered in dirt that I wasn't even absolutely sure it was gray. We went to a movie (I have no idea which one - I wasn't really concentrating on it, you see!) and then out for a snack. We talked long after the restaurant closed, ignoring the not-so-subtle hints of our server as she tried to get us to leave.
I didn't want the night to end.
Kevin walked me to my door later, and as I turned to say goodnight to him, I saw the unmistakable gleam in his eye that he had enjoyed himself as much as I had. At least, I hoped he had! I held my breath (again!) as I waited for him to say goodnight.
"Good night. Is it okay if I call you tomorrow?"
Duh.
"Sure. That'd be great! Well, g'night."
"'Night."
And then he left. For the first time ever, I had a first date that did not end with a kiss.
And while I was a bit disappointed, I was also enamored by the respect he had just shown me.
I was definitely twitterpated.
...to be continued next Monday. Head over to Rachel's for more Meetings, Marriages, & Memories fun!

I love these stories :)I'd just like to have a first date that doesn't end with me deleting the guy's contact info out of my phone in the car on my way home. I attract keepers, let me tell you ;)
I love that he didn't kiss you! How awesome is that?! No pressure of a physical "quota" to meet the next date...I love it!
Oh, so sweet! I love that you guys didn't kiss on your first date. I also laughed thinking of the 12 layers he was wearing. Can't wait to read more next week.

Awww...too precious!!! I can't wait to read Pt. 4!
I love it. I LOVE that he didn't kiss you. What a gentleman!!!
You are a dreadful tease... can't you make these just a tad longer? It's like giving a child one tiny bite of his cookie every 3 hours... torture!
cute :) I love the composure women show while really dancing up and down!
this is so great! One of the things I loved about my hubby was that he didnt' try to kiss me on our first date! :)
twitterpated... heehee
you didn't get a kiss either? at the time i didn't care about being respected!! :P
good thing he didn't give up when you had plans for the first night he suggested.
I love all these stories with guys that are gentlemen!!! What a great example they will be for their daughters!! (having older kids, I so appreciate that).
I love that "Heavenly Blue Eyes" waited a day. And I'm surprised he didn't have more on. I've survived two winters so far, the more layers the better!
I love these stories! And I think it's great that he waited to kiss you. It does show respect.
